 Make a Change... Kill Yourself is a danish band that was created in 2004. The band name already says a lot of their style, everything in their songs are so depressive, so suicidal, and the lyrics are so morbid.
   In my opinion Make a Change... Kill Yourself second album is one of the best depressive album ever made, it only have two songs but the atmosphere created by them is just mesmerizing, it is so depressive, so bleak. If you are just starting to listen to DSBM, I would recommend to begin with this album.
   A lot of depressive bands can make a good atmosphere but the lyrics are just awful, this is not the case. Make a Change... Kill Yourself lyrics are about suicide, despair and misanthropy, they really know how to sell suicide, after listen to their songs and lyrics you will start to see suicide as a much more desirable choice.
   I highly recommend this band for all the fans of good depressive black metal.

At the beginning ... (also known as Dot Dot Dot) was a international band with members from Italy, Netherlands and USA, this was the Depressive era of the band.

   The first two albums (Suffering Existence, Somebody Save Me) was made when the band was international. This albums are not some kind of masterpiece, is just another depressive black metal, you can find a lot of bands that sound the same. But it is very good, after all is DSBM.

   The third album (Cold Journey Through Madness) is more a ambient black metal, and the fourth (The Path Toward Forgetfulness) is more a blackened shoegaze.

   ... have an album that was never released, so obviously I won't be posting it here, the album name is Autumnal Overdose of Melancholy. 

   I like all the phases of ..., but i think only a few people would agree with me. In each album they sound like a different band with different styles, but i think it is worth check out each one of them.

Coldworld is a german one man band created by Georg Börnerin 2005. His music style is a atmospheric black metal mixed with dark ambient and depressive black metal.
   All of you know that DSBM is not a easy genre to listen to, only a few people are able to enjoy it, and in my opinion Coldworld is one of the bands that are most likely to please the ones who are not fan or unfamiliar with this kind of music.
    Coldworld, as the name suggest, make a very cold songs with an atmosphere so bleak, so lifeless, perfect for those cold winter's mornings. In the black metal scene there are a lot of bands that try to capture the essence of winter, and in my opinion Coldworld is the one who came closest, everything in his music reminds me of winter.
   I highly recommend this band for everyone.

Aäkon Këëtrëh is a one man french band founded in 1994 by Lord Aäkon Këëtrëh (ex-Belkètre, ex-Torgeist) in 1994, after the release of three demos the band ended in 1999.
   Aäkon Këëtrëh's style is a dark ambient with black metal influences, but Lord Aäkon Këëtrëh calls the genre as "Tlak" which is the initial of his name. This band is part of the Lés Legions Noires (aka LLN), a group of french underground black metal bands of the early 90's.
   Like any other member of the LLN, Aäkon Këëtrëh's songs are extremely raw and lo-fi. His music is very sad and beautiful, it's one of the darkest I have ever heard, it truly transports you to another place, you feel like you are in the middle of a dark forest in some winter night all alone and cold.
   I Highly recommend this band for everyone, if you are not a fan of dark ambient then after listening to Aäkon Këëtrëh's second album (Dans La Forêt...) you will start to look at this genre with other eyes.

 Hypothermia was created in 2001 by Kim Carlsson (ex-Lifelover, ex-Life is Pain, ex- Kyla), their style is a mix of DSBM and atmospheric black metal.
   In my opinion this is the best depressive band, the atmosphere created by their music is just mesmerizing, I can listen to them all day and not get tired of it. Hypothermia's songs are so depressive and cold, it makes you feel so lifeless.
   When I listen to Hypothermia it makes me feel like I am alone, looking at a beautiful landscape with mountains on the horizon, it is the middle of winter, fresh snow everywhere, and around me there are trees that seems as old as the world, there is not a sound, not even the wind, only a deep and painful silence, and I feel so hopeless, so lifeless.
   This is the closest you will get to perfection, if you never heard Hypothermia before you have no idea what you are missing, I highly recommend this for everyone.
   Hypothermia will release a new album called Svenskt Vemod, that was supposed to be released in the same year as Skogens Hjärta. They already have released two of the six songs that will be in the new album, they are Dö Av Ren Vilja (Download) and Tusenfaldiga Sår (Download). They also have a unreleased album, and a unreleased split with Trist.

   Bonjour Tristesse is a german one man band founded in 2008 by Nathanael (Thränenkind, Heretoir and Agrypnie). Bonjour Tristesse is french for "hello sadness", I never understood the reason of why a german band have a french name.

   Bonjour Tristesse have released only one album independently, nowadays the band is on hold, but I doubt that we will ever see another album from this band.

   Bonjour Tristesse, as the name already suggests, make songs very melancholic, the atmosphere created by him is very sad and anguishful, you can really feel his pain.

   I highly recommend this band for everyone.

Coldnight - Discography

   Coldnight was a one woman band created by Hypothermia in 2008, but in 2011 Scott Johnson joined in, and played bass in the three splits released that year, soon after, he left the band, and in 2012 Robert joined in.

   At the beginning Coldnight played dsbm, but with the years you can see more and more the influence of the ambient black metal. Their songs are lo-fi, so obviously I recommend this band only for those who enjoy this type of music.

   Coldnight's songs are able to create an atmosphere so distressful and cold, and at the same time truly beautiful, in my opinion this is the best female fronted black metal band out there.

NOTE: I won't be posting the albums "Llévame Lejos" and "Waterfall of Suicides", because sadly I never found these albums, if one day I find them I will post them here.

Empyrium - Discography

 Empyrium is a german band founded in 1994 by Ulf Theodor Schwadorf and Andreas Bach. In 1997 Nadine Mölter (Ulf's wife) joined the band, but in 1999 she left the band. In 2002 Andreas left the band and Thomas Helm joined in. Empyrium split-up in 2006, but they got back together in 2010.

 It is hard to describe Empyrium's style of music, they use the melody of the neofolk and the melancholy of the darkwave, all mixed with a few other genres, this combination creates something completely original, I call this style of dark neofolk for the lack of a better name.

 Empyrium creates an atmosphere so beautiful, but in my opinion the highlight of this band is the lyrics which manages to translate the melody into words, it is really rare to find a band that have both lyrics and instrumentals so well made, like this one.

  Empyrium is one of my favorite bands, I highly recommend this band for everyone.
